Meg and Spencer
fall wedding in the carolina's
For coastal South Carolina, a TRUE fall occurs in about in a two to three week window. Everything will have that orangey-yellow crispy feel mixed with the greens from the pines and the oaks - but then BAM, we are right into winter season haha! Our winter season can be fairly mild, having the occasional snowflake every 5-8 years. I recall many of Christmas' wearing shorts or at least jeans and a t-shirt.
Well Meg and Spencer ended up with a glorious fall wedding - the colors and weather were a perfect match. Their date was set for November 8th, 2025. We had finally started dipping below the 50's during the evenings. This is the time of year you walk out the door in layers, you strip them off as the sun gets to it's peek, then you slowly layer them back on as it sets. We had just hit daylight savings time the weekend before so the sun was setting close to 5:30pm this day. Their wedding was a quant Lake House at Bulow in James Island, South Carolina. A rustically charming log cabin seated next to a small lake. What is unique about this venue is most of the ceremonies occur on it's own little island in the middle of the lake.
At the start of the day - some stray clouds randomly came in typical southern fashion and rain doused the grounds. I can't lie, my moody heart loves a good cloud and some drizzle (fo shizzle - haha). And to me, rain actually saturates the colors - making them deep, earthy, and absorbent. There was some slight concern that we might have to move the ceremony indoors however, nature moved on and what was left was a glorious textured sky with perfect temps.
One of the COOLEST things I have gotten to capture at a wedding occurred here with Meg and Spencer. One of the extra curricular activities that Meg and Spencer learned together and enjoy doing is dancing, specifically Contra Dancing. Per Wikipedia (with all due credit lol) Contra Dance is is a form of folk dancing made up of long lines of couples. It has mixed origins from English country dance, Scottish Dance, and French dance styles in the 17th century. Sometimes described as New England folk dance or Appalachian folk dance, contra dances can be found around the world. Lamen's terms - any time you watch a movies like Pride and Prejudice, Game of Thrones, even Bridgerton- and there are parties - these are the dances you are watching. So at their reception, Meg and Spencer brought a Contra Band and a Contra guide and taught their guests some simple Contra Dances. Super fun and super unique! Their reception was lit by romantic cafe lights and this is my jam. I LOOOOOOOVE a good low light to set the mood. So they ended their night dancing beneath the stars with their friends and family.
